I have a beautiful 1975/74 CZ 250 Falta. This bike belonged to the Late Don Matthews. Don was a foremost CZ racer and builder in Ahrma and Pacific Northwest vintage motocross scene. He was a friend and a great person. The CZ World Championships ( Don Matthews) is dedicated to his memory. The title has 1974 CZ. The frame has a falta kit and powder coated. Falta top end 4 speed tranny. Works shocks, aftermarket fenders, brake stay/chain guide. It has bing carb and reed valve box. Aftermarket race pipe. I am not a CZ expert at all!! I tried to race it but after 15 years of 4 stroke racing it just doesn't work for me. There has been a lot of good work done to this bike . The piston port work to the cylinder head, down to the rear brake pedal set up. There was a lot of attention to detail on this build. Please ask questions, I race at the expert level and this bike handles great the forks have had work done to then springs and emulators. Please look at the pics they tell a lot more then I can. 500 down payment within48 hours via pay/pal or cash works. Buyer responsible for all shipping and handling arrangements and costs. It has aluminum Falta tank race style seat and cover(new) This is just a top notch bike built buy a top notch man. yz, xr, rm, crf, ktm, vintage motocross, ahrma, yzf, penton, bultaco, 100, 125, 175, 250, 300, 350, 360, 400, 450, 465, 500, cr, kx, Good Luck!

Selling my 1979 Suzuki TS 125, only 648 miles as of time of posting! Just replaced original tires and battery, and put a new OEM carburetor on after sitting for over 30 years. Fired up 3rd kick! Bike is in amazing condition, a little finite detailing it would look like it rolled off the showroom floor. As it is all cleaned up it looks as good as it runs. A rare find and a load of fun to ride! Includes a clean AZ Title. Great bike for anyone interested in an AHRMA vintage bike like Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Husqvarna, Penton, CZ, Maico, Sherco, Triumph, BulTaco, Gas Gas, or Beta.

This is a 2013 Husky 125WR that I bought for my son a few years back. He lost interest in riding and it sits in the shed. Has never been raced - only ridden on a few practice tracks. The bike has the original tires that have little wear - it has about 5 hours of time on it and needs nothing. I put the 144 kit on the bike and it includes the 125 top end and parts. . This is a Husqvarna -- not a CZ, Maico, Bultaco, Penton, KTM , Honda CR, Yamaha YZ. . Buyer responsible for shipping - All sales are final - no returns. Please ask any questions before bidding. Buyer is responsible for shipping or for bike pick up. $500 non-refundable deposit due within 24 hours of action end.

This is a Taylar Motorbike build. It was finished December 8th, 2015. It is not a replica (copy) but a tribute (resembles) a 1914 Thor. This is as good as it gets with tribute cycles. NO PART of this was from a bicycle. It has 100% top of the line components.Powered by a very reliable Honda GC160 4 stroke motor (no mixing fuel) which has been internally upgraded.CVT Belt drive torque converter with upgraded bearings. (No shifting)Upgraded Mikuni carb Stainless Steel exhaust & manifold Custom balanced, milled and polished flywheelKnurled brass caps and machined knurled starter pulleyCustom head modification with Thor style lifter and push tube (polished)Thick wall steel tubing used on entire frame, stays and forks.Custom Thor fuel tank (internally vented) with tank toolboxThor style oiler (can use for storage) with door (keyed)Genuine handmade correct style MESINGER stamped leather seatCycle wheels with heavy duty FRONT and REAR drum hub brakes. (Not bicycle wheels)Period correct Diamond tread tiresThick custom made cables.Heavy duty motorcycle leversStainless Steel nuts/boltsSealed bearings throughoutHeavy-Duty drop stand & clipUtility rear rack / carrier3 piece cranks with sealed bearings and heavy plated block pedalsPowder coated deep Gray & Gloss Black. (10 times thicker and more durable than paint) This cycle has a lifetime registration and comes with a Ca license plate. It can be operated on the roads without a license. Unlike the 49cc 2 stroke bicycle engine, this will get you up to 50 MPH regardless of your weight (unless you're REALLY a fatty!) It has 3 times the torque and thumps like a motorcycle! If you are an interested party I would be happy to send you a very detailed description of all the components. Ebay only allows 12 pictures. If youd like a detailed shot of a particular component let me know. (I am selling this build ONLY. No parts or custom builds being accepted, sorry.) **Free TIP** If you are in the market for a street legal motor/pedal tribute cycle and you intend to ride it: BE SURE... 1. See pictures taken DURING the build before it was painted/powder coated (look at the quality) 2. Make SURE it wasn't made from a cut up Walmart bicycle then painted really cool (99% are!) 3. Don't get one with a Chinagirl 49/66/80cc 2 stroke motor, they are whimpy and sound like a toy. 4. Ask for detailed list of components used (frame, wheels, hubs, spokes, tires, pedals/cranks, steel, type of bearings, brakes, fittings, grade of nuts/bolts) 5. Stay away from sellers claiming they are the best. The best don't "sell themselves"; their customers do! Visit motorbicyling.com, tribute/replica websites & forums and they will let you know who that is. This is a 7 day auction, buy it now only. If cycle is not sold it will be on display at the Riverside Marriott show on Jan 9th. It can be purchased on site or delivery arrangements may be made with deposit. Come by and check it out before you buy! Local pick up-balance paid in person. Will ship at buyers expense once paid for. Ships from Ca 92504 $1000 to be paid (Paypal) immediately after auction complete. Balance to be paid within 14 days in person or by Cashiers Check if being shipped. 1975, CZ 125 typ 511 prototype/works bike
Developed in 1975 this bike was completely new from the ground up. The new bike looked suspiciously like the Honda 125 which probably had a big influence on the CZ engineers. Like the big CZ's this bike used laid down air shocks. Works riders Antonin Babarovsky and Jiri Churavy did quite well... Czechpoint

CZ Rigid Frame Girder Forks
Hey there,

I am very interested in your CZ Rigid Frame motorcycle with the orange tank and straight pipe. Is it for sale?! If so, please let me know how much and I would be happy to do business with you. If it is not for sale, could you please email me letting me know, that way I don't sit around wondering?

Also, could you tell me exactly what year and model it is, so that way I can check out some other online resources for ones that are ready to buy?

Thank you very much for your time, and hope you have a great Thanksgiving next week!

You are not going back far enough to connect CZ and Indian. I'm not sure of the exact relationship in the early days, but there was something. There are photos of CZ 125b's with an Indian decal curved around the CZ tank emblem. This would have been from about 1947... more: CZ USA 1940s-50s

I will talk to the owner concerning the picture and get back with you.
I used to work for a Jawa/CZ dealership in the mid 70's. He had an unusual Jawa that may be of interest to you. It was used for training purposes and had dual controls. I rode it a few times and it got quite a few looks. Actually I did a 200 word article on the old bike but never found anyone interested in including it in a magazine. You may have some ideas there. Thanks Doug

Scott Hills CZ125A.
Scott said that his Uncle hauled two trailer loads of misc items to Florida when his Grandfather died. Parts of the old CZ may be in Florida. Hope so. Scotts grandfather was an Indian dealer. Curious as to how Indian dealers seemed to get connected with CZ. The dealer I used to work for (11 years) still had about a dozen 125 oilmasters when I started in 73 and he used to be an Indian dealer also. Just curious.

CZ 125 Earles Forks

This cracks me up; the guy likely has a Sachs / DKW 125cc with the Earls fork. THIS bike is a '73 CZ 250 Enduro (first year) that I restored for a customer. Normally has conventional forks.. The fork in the pic is a Sachs / Earls that I Photoshopped on as it's a project in the works and I wanted to see how it looked. No need to change it; I like it. And the 71 CZ 380 a few posts above is a '73 and I know the actual owner of that bike too. I'll go through my stuff and send some CZ pics tonight. BTW I'm not trying to be pretentious; Lots of great stuff on your site. I see my pics a lot and the Springer Fork Enduro is taken seriously a lot. I have the parts and do plan to do the project when I get time. Which may be years. But it will happen. Oh yes........
It will happen........Lee

Below is my restored 1969 CZ 250 Side Piper that I built in 2000. Nothing Photoshopped here.........

CZ-1969-250cc-Sidepiper.jpg
CZ 250 Sidepiper 1969

.........
Here's the before and after Enduro pics. Type model 988. 1973 was the first year of the MX based Enduro; the early ones as here did not have radial heads. Lot's of leftover parts from 70 / 72. Below that is a Type 981 late 71 through 72 380, all yellow, commonly referred to as a 400. The 250 cc (type 980) looks the same, the main visual sign is a much larger rear sprocket. The blue bike is a 1973 400; the 250s have a red tank.....Lee

message: Hi, I am trying to locate anyone who has info regarding the Czeta scooter manufactured in the 50 and 60's. I once owned a Nzeta in NZ many years ago, which is the NZ version and want to purchse a Czeta here in Aus. I have contacted MANY people but no-one seems to be able to help in any way.
I ideally would love to buy an unrestored one as I want to restore it slowly myself.
ANY info or contacts who may be able to help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm in Adelaide, Australia and my phone number is 08-8262 8895.
Kindest Regards Paul Anderson

CZ 125

The selection of tyres for your CZ 125 must be made carefully, with consideration for several factors, including the type of motorcycle, the dimensions, and the manner in which the vehicle is used, with respect to the routes that are taken on a daily basis. To help you in this delicate research stage, Pirelli has created a comprehensive tyre catalog for CZ, designed to ensure excellent driving performance in all conditions, and absolute safety. In the extensive Pirelli catalog, you will find a wide selection of tyres for CZ designed for high performance. The Pirelli tyres for the CZ 125 are a perfect marriage of technology and innovation, made with a special tread compound that can tackle any weather condition without hesitation. The tread pattern of the tyre is designed to ensure maximum grip, both straight and cornering, while reducing hydroplaning on wet roads, braking distances, and fuel consumption. Reviewing the specifications sheet for each CZ 125 tyre will allow you to verify their technical features, comparing the various possible options. Once you've found the CZ 125 tyres that will best meet your needs, contact an authorized Pirelli retailer for more details on the technical aspects and complete your purchase with complete confidence. When the time comes to replace your CZ 125 tyres, choose the signature quality and security of Pirelli.

CZ typ 511-80

1980 CZ 125 work bike (typ 511-80)

For 1980 the works CZ 125's were raced only by a team made up of Soviet (Russian) riders. Non Czech components such as Marzocchi, Ohlins, Mikuni, and Motoplat were utilized in an effort to keep the machines competitive with the Japanese works bikes that dominated the 125 GP's.

1980 CZ 250 works bike (typ 978-80)

The prototype for the "new" 250 CZ was unveiled in 1980 but only Jiri Churavy rode the bike in the GP's. The other works 250 riders, Jaroslav Falta, Vladimir Kavinov, and Guenady Moiseev all rode the old reliable typ 980-80. In 1980 Falta won the second moto in Spain and the first moto in Czechoslovakia. Falta finished 7th in the world 250cc standings. Kavinov won his home GP in the Soviet Union, this would prove to be the last GP win by a CZ rider.

1980 CZ 412 works bike (typ 981-80)

1980 was the last year that works CZ's were campaigned in the open class. The bikes featured 412cc engines and 5-speed transmissions. There are probably a few vintage racers out there that would like to get their hands on one of these engines, to build the ultimate "cheater" bike.

1981 CZ 125 works bike (typ 511-81)

For 1981 the works 125 CZ's were lighter , more powerful, and had more suspension travel. The bikes looked surprising similar to the RM 125 Suzukis of 1980. Soviets Yuri Khudiakov and Andrei Ledovskoi were the works 125 pilots in 1981.

CZ typ 511-81

CZ typ 978-81

1981 CZ 250 works bike (typ 978-81)

Jaroslav Falta,  Guenady Moiseev, Vladimir Kavinov, and Zdenek Velky all rode the new 250 in 1981. The new 250 engine featured primary kick starting on the left side, but the lever had to be kicked forward, like an ISDT Jawa. Suspension travel was up to 12.6" in the rear and still 10.6" in the front. Ohlins and Marzocchi suspension components were used. Horsepower was rated 39.6 at 7,600 rpm.

1982 CZ 125 works bike (typ 511-82)

All new for 1982 the works 125 CZ featured a rear suspension that looked similar to the Suzuki Full Floater system. The CZ system was different however, it used a rocker arm and linkage at the top shock mount. A maximum of 13.7" of wheel travel was available from this system. Marzocchi forks were still utilized. The bike still weighed 207 lbs., but the power was up, 34 hp at 11,000 rpm. A mechanically operated disc brake was used at the front for the first time by CZ.

CZ typ 511-82

CZ typ 978-82

1982 CZ 250 works bike (typ 978-82)

The single shock rear suspension was also new on the 250 works CZ. Virtually identical to the Honda Pro-Link design, the CZ version gave 12.6" of rear wheel travel. The weight of the bike was up to 226 lbs. and the engine was now developing 42 hp at 7,800 rpm. Jaroslav Falta was the works 250 rider for 1982.

1983 CZ 125 Moto-cross (typ 516)

The typ 516 CZ was vastly improved over the typ 511 it replaced, but little of the technology from the works 125 seemed to be incorporated. The typ 516 was no match for the Japanese production 125 motocrossers of the day. But since most of these bikes ended up in the captive market of Eastern Europe, it really did not matter. Where most of these bikes were sold, it was the only brand on the starting line.

1983 125 twin cylinder prototype

1983 CZ 125cc Twin Moto-cross Prototype

In the early 1980's a few companies thought the twin cylinder engine was the future of 125 moto-cross. Gilera campaigned a twin cylinder 125 in 1982, in the hands of Gaston Rahier. Honda also developed a twin 125 MX'er, but that bike was never raced outside of Japan. CZ also developed a twin cylinder 125 Moto-cross, in 1983. But before it could be raced in the GP's the FIM banned twin cylinder engines in the 125 class. When that happened the 125 twin went directly to the CZ Museum.

The CZ "Twin" had some unusual features. The bike featured twin carburetors feeding into a rotary valve induction system. The single rotary valve was gear driven and sat behind the cylinders, so the carbs were in the traditional location. This motorcycle also featured a countershaft sprocket that shared the same axes as the swingarm pivot. This being accomplished with an extra shaft a the back of the transmission.

The CZ Twin MX was recently on display at the National Technical Museum in Prague, Czech Republic. These great pictures come courtesy of Martin Kratky, and Jiri Starec.

1983 CZ 125 works bike (typ ???-83)

The 83 factory 125 racer featured new forks manufactured by CZ. These forks had 42mm diameter tubes with 11.8" of travel. The frame was new also and it utilized a backbone of welded steel stampings. Power was up to 36 hp at 11,600 rpm.

1983 CZ 250 works bike (typ ???-83)

The 83 works 250 featured refinements over the 82 version. New porting delivered more power at a lower engine speed (43 hp at 7,700 rpm). The rear suspension was refined and an Ohlins shock utilized giving a maximum of 13.4" of wheel travel. Marzocchi forks were still being used at the front. Drum brakes were still being used, but the front brake featured twin leading shoes.

1983 CZ 250 water cooled prototype

1983 CZ 250 water cooled prototype

Developed for use in the 84 GP season, the water cooled CZ 250 never saw action in the moto-cross world championships. 1983 turned out to be the last year that the CZ factory competed in grand prix moto-cross. An era had come to an end.

1983 CZ 250/400 moto-cross (typ 513/514)

Introduced in 1983, the typ 513 and 514 looked similar to the works CZ's of 1978. Unfortunately they lacked the performance of their earlier works bike cousins. Again the captive market of eastern Europe assured that most of these bikes never had to compete against the state of the art production motocrossers of the time. The typ 513 and 514 remained in production into the early 1990's. Some of these bikes were brought into the US around 1987 by Bertus Jawa-CZ. Later they were imported by American Jawa, sold as play bikes, and promoted with the brochure shown.

1988 CZ 250 pre-production prototype?

CZ typ 520 (1988 CZ 250 pre-production prototype)

I have little information on the bike pictured at the left. This picture appeared in the November 1988 issue of Czechoslovak Motor Review, and no information accompanied the photo. I will speculate that this was the pre-production prototype for the new 250 moto-cross. Sadly this motorcycle never went into production. If CZ could have introduced a bike like this in 1982 the company might still be building motorcycles today. This motorcycle is rumored to be in the hands of a collector in the southern United States.

1989 CZ 125 Moto-cross (typ 519)

CZ's last gasp. The typ 519 125 moto-cross was fairly advanced with hydraulic disc brakes, liquid cooled power valve engine, and a dry weight of 195 lbs. It appeared to be patterned after the Yamaha YZ 125 of the time. A few of these bikes made it the United States in the early 1990's. These motorcycles had limited success, mostly in the 125 beginner classes.

2000 prototype demonstration bike

2000 CZ 250 Prototype

In 2000 a few employees at the CZ factory decided to build a 250cc moto-cross prototype as a demonstration that CZ could still produce moto-cross motorcycles. The CZ factory still builds roller chain, automobile transmissions, and coordinate measuring equipment. This prototype was photographed by Mike Tillman on his trip to the Czech Republic with Brad Lackey in the fall of 2000. It is not known what ever became of this prototype, but I know there are many CZ fans out there that would like to see CZ start building motocrossers again.

Epilogue

CZ revolutionized the sport of moto-cross in the 1960's. Riders on 250 CZ's won more grand prix than any other brand in that decade, and the 360 CZ brought an end to 4-stroke domination in the 500 class, (until the early 1990's that is). The sport of moto-cross would not be the same today without CZ. European moto-cross legends like Joel Robert, Roger DeCoster, Paul Friedrichs, Vlastimil Valek, Jaroslav Falta, Victor Arbokov, Guenady Moiseev, Gaston Rahier, and many more all began their careers with CZ. In the United States, MX champion's Brad Lackey, Tony DiStefano, Jimmy Weinert, and Rick Burgett all rode CZ's early on.

Varity made moto-cross interesting in the late 1960's and 70's. One could see a dozen or more different brands of motorcycle at a typical moto-cross event. These days, with the exception of color, all moto-cross bikes just seem the same. Luckily vintage moto-cross is alive and well, and also alive and well are the classic motorcycles of CZ, Husqvarna, Maico, Bultaco, Montesa, OSSA, BSA, Rickman, AJS, Greeves, and all the other brands that made moto-cross what it is today.

1989 CZ 125 Walkaround

CZ Motorcycles - CZ is short for Česká Zbrojovka, which is a Czechoslovakian firearms manufacturer that is also known for making CZ motorcycles. In September 1919, CZ was established as a branch of the Škoda Works Armament in Strakonice, Czechoslovakia.

CZ began making street motorcycles in 1932, but abandoned racing them in 1972 so that they could focus on creating CZ motocross bikes. They became very well known for their powerful two-stroke MX bikes and was the first company to use expansion chambers in their exhaust pipes.

Although CZ was very successful in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, they were even more successful with motocross racing, winning seven World Championships and dominating the International Six Day Trials Competition.

During the 1950s, CZ joined forces with Jawa. During the 1960s and 1970s, CZ mainly manufactured bikes based on two Models: The 125/175 single-cylinder, and the 250 twin-cylinder. CZ launched the 350 "Typ-860" GP in 1969.

Despite CZ’s racing success, the company lost a lot of the motorcycle market with the increase of popularity in the less expensive Japanese motorcycles in the 1970s. In 1993, Italian motorcycle manufacturer Cagiva purchased the motorcycle branch of CZ, with intent to create new proprietary bikes, as well as new CZ models. Cagiva failed in 1997 because of financial difficulties, therefore bringing an end to CZ Motorcycles.

1939 CZ 250 Sport

The CZ 250 Sport model was introduced in 1937. It basically had an identical frame and chassis as the CZ 175 type, into which a larger engine was built.

From 1957 CZ Cezeta 175-Typ 502 scooter

The original design of the Cezeta scooters were unique. It had a substantial luggage compartment, using space that in most scooters is occupied by the fuel tank.  The fuel tank is positioned above the front wheel, with the headlight fitted into a recess and a luggage rack on the flat top surface.

1964 CZ 125 Two-cylinder

Jawa was not the only Czechoslo-vakian company to go into speed racing. There was also CZ, a company closely linked to Jawa.

One of the first CZ racing engines, a four-stroke single-cylinder, was built in 1955 in 125-cc, 250-cc, and 350-cc. versions. It was a compact Italian-style engine with two-shaft bevel gear distribution, oil in the crankcase, and block transmission. The three versions generated 14.5, 24, and 30 h.p., respectively.
The CZ 125 was extremely lightweight (about 165 pounds), which made up for its modest power. It entered its first race in 1955, winning a brilliant second place at the Swedish Grand Prix.
It was built after the fashion of the Italian Mondial and MV, but the CZ was not on a par with the competition. In 1964 CZ brought out a new 125 that was clearly modeled after the Jawa 350. It retained the four-stroke system but had two cylinders instead of one. The new Va -liter made its debut at Modena that same year. The engine generated 24 h.p., but the motorcycle, which was at least five years out of date, put in a disappointing performance. The two-cylinder 125, like the single-cylinder version, was short-lived. After these failures CZ turned to the four-cylinder engine.

1966 CZ 125 Works DOHC

1970 CZ 350 V

Four stroke works Single from 1966, DOHC, only 8 of this model were constructed by the official CZ racing department.

After 1965 Czechoslovakia made a dramatic advance in the development of Grand Prix technology. Jawa built its two-stroke, four-cylinder 350 and sister company CZ built a four-stroke, four-cylinder 350. Both seemed good enough for international competition.

The CZ 350 V was ready for the 1969 Czechoslovakian Grand Prix, and the motorcycle looked altogether new. The cylinders were set at about 90°, with the front cylinders almost horizontal and the rear ones slightly tipped back. There was two-shaft overhead distribution, with four valves per cylinder.

The chassis of the CZ 350 V was carefully styled, following an original design, and the accessories were Italian. The motorcycle's total weight was barely 300 pounds.

The technicians working for CZ managed to get 52 h.p. out of the 1969 prototype. The following year they got 58 h.p., which was enough to enable it to compete with the better private Yamaha 350s, albeit not with the MV or the official Yamahas.

Unfortunately the CZ racer, Bohumil Stasa, was not on a par with the best private racers. He had only one satisfactory placing, coming in second behind Jarno Saarinen at the 1971 Czechoslovakian Grand Prix.

1973 CZ 250

CZ enjoyed a great deal of popularity in the US during the late 1960's and early 1970's. If you raced motocross, CZ was the bike to have. It remained that way until mid 1973 when the Honda Elsinore 250 arrived. Sales would never be the same for the Czech factory and by 1976, CZ's were seldom seen on American motocross tracks.
1973 was the first year of the coffin tank.

This bike is fairly original with the exception of the front fender which has been replaced with a reproduction plastic item. The Jikov carburetor was replaced with a Mikuni when the bike was first sold. This was a common practice for dealers as was changing out the points ignition for an electronic one.

This was the bike that CZ won the constructor championship with. With a Mikuni VM 36 carburetor.
